Two of Europe’s top soccer clubs are all knotted up heading into the second leg of their Champions League semifinal match.
Chelsea and Real Madrid played to a 1-1 draw at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in the opening leg of their semifinal meeting, giving the Premier League the home-field advantage at Stamford Bridge in Wednesday’s meeting. But then, the La Liga team could still advance, even with a tie, as long as it scores more than one goal in the second meeting.
Christian Pulisic became the first American to score a goal in the Champions League semifinal in the teams’ April 27 meeting, putting Chelsea up 1-0 just 14 minutes into the match. But Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema knotted the score just 15 minutes later, giving the game its ultimate 1-1 draw.
It will be worth watching whether Sergio Ramos will return to the lineup for Real Madrid, though manager Zinedine Zidane has refused to offer any information on whether he will play on Wednesday.
Will Chelsea win and make the Champions League final an all-Premier League affair with Manchester City? Or will Zidane return the team to its first final berth since 2017-18? With that, here’s everything you need to know about the second-leg semifinal meeting between Chelsea and Real Madrid:
