The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is in constant contact with Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahim in the wake of suspension of the Indian Premier League, informed a high-placed BCB official.
Shakib and Mustafizur have been playing for Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals respectively in the IPL, which got suspended indefinitely on Tuesday owing to rising cases of infection within the IPL bubble.
As there is no clear indication yet whether the IPL will resume anytime soon and with the home series against Sri Lanka approaching, the BCB wants to bring back two of its marquee players as soon as possible even though no specific date for their return could be ascertained yet.
BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star that they are working on bringing back the two cricketers.
“We are in close contact with Shakib and Mustafizur to bring them back to the country. We will facilitate the process and aid the authorities here in bringing them back. The two cricketers will abide by the guidelines that the health ministry will provide before joining the training camp ahead of the ODI home series against Sri Lanka,” Chowdhury said.
Shakib played in the first three matches for KKR while Mustafizur played in all seven matches for Rajasthan Royals. The IPL, which kicked off on April 9, was scheduled to finish on May 30.
Meanwhile, the BCB CEO further said that the members of the Bangladesh Test squad, who will return from Sri Lanka today, will go through home quarantine before joining the other players of the preliminary squad for training.
Bangladesh will host Sri Lanka for three ODIs in Dhaka later this month, the matches scheduled for May 23, 25 and 27.
