Officer in Charge of Debidwer Police Station Arifur Rahman said the clash erupted between two groups centring a feud over a dance party at a marriage ceremony programme.

Locals said a dance party was arranged at the house of Oman expatriate Jakir Hossain centring his daughter Nazma Akter’s marriage.

Rahim, Sajib and Mamun, who hail from Gunjor village, had an altercation with local youths over a trifling matter around 1:00am.

At one stage, both the groups locked in a fierce clash near Jibonpur Insaf Market area that left Rahim dead on the spot while Saiful died on his way to Debidwer Upazila Health Complex.

Meanwhile, critically injured Sajib, Mamun and Akter were admitted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, from where they were later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Cumilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC said, adding that none had filed any complaint in this regard yet.

Police, however, detained Zakir and one Basir Mia of Adbullahpur for interrogation.
