Rail communication of Khulna with other parts of the country remained suspended since this evening after a passenger train derailed at Poradaha Railway Station in Kushtia.
A compartment of Gopalganj-bound ‘Tungipara Express’ from Rajshahi veered off the tracks at 6:00pm, said Shariful Islam, acting station manager of Poradaha railway station.
He said the derailment may have occurred due to a glitch in the rail tracks.
The station master Shariful said a rescue team has already been informed.
Contacted, Engineer Birbal Mandal, divisional transport officer of Pakshi Railway Station said repair work will likely be completed within tonight.
No casualty was reported following the derailment, he added.
