Abahani Limited swept aside arch-rival Mohammedan FC by a big margin of 60 runs in the Super League phase of Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League today thanks to Mushfiqur Rahim’s skillful fifty before the Abahani bowlers dominated proceedings.
Liton Das fell cheaply, scoring 4 off 7 before opener Munim Shahriar and Najmul Hossain Shanto strung together a 48-run partnership before the latter departed to Abu Jayed in the 8th over. Having not been amongst the runs in the recent few matches, Mushfiqur’s bat came alive again in the Super League phase as he played some extraordinary improvised strokes during an unbeaten 32-ball 57, laced with eight fours and a six to helped Abahani to 193 for 7 — the highest total in this season’s DPL.
In reply, Mohammedan’s chase fell away at the start with Mohammad Saifuddin getting early breakthroughs. Irfan Shukkur’s 27 was meek resistance and Mohammedan soon succumbed to 42 for six. In the end, Mahmudul Hasan’s 36-ball 37 and Abu Haider’s unbeaten 42-ball 53, helped Mohammedan reach 133 for seven. Saifuddin and Mosaddek Hossain bagged two wickets each for Abahani.
